Gerald P. Mallon, DSW 

Professor and Executive Director

National Resource Center for Family-Centered Practice and Permanency Planning at the Hunter College School of Social Work, a Service of the Children's Bureau (New York City)


Dr. Mallon has a thirty-one year history in the national child welfare arena. He has lectured in the United States, Canada, Ireland, Australia, and the United Kingdom and has published extensively in the areas of child welfare, social services and adolescence.


Dr. Mallon's latest publications, co-authored with Dr. Peg Hess, are the textbook "Child Welfare for the 21st Century: Practice, Policies, and Programs for America's Children, Youth, and Families," published by Columbia University Press, and "Facilitating Permanency for Older Adolescents: A Toolbox for Youth Permanency," published by the Child Welfare League of America.


He received a DSW in Social Welfare from the City University of New York, an MSW from Fordham University in New York City and a BSW from Dominican College in Blauvelt, NY.


Dr. Mallon is a well-respected advocate for policies and programs that support safe and stable families and strong communities for children, youth and families, having worked in public and non-profit child welfare management positions in his career. In addition, Dr. Mallon has been a licensed foster parent, and is the parent of three young people through adoption.
